• How much does counselling cost?
I offer a free 30 minute consultation. After that
time, you can decide if you’d like to work
together. My hourly rate is $80. However, I do
offer fees on a sliding scale for those on limited
incomes.
Unfortunately, psychological services are not covered by Alberta Health. However, you might have coverage from other sources such as Blue Cross or your employee benefits package. If your counselling relates to an accident or crime, you could be eligible for assistance from the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) or other agency.

• How long does counselling take?
That depends on your issues, the urgency of your
concerns, your motivation, time you have, and
financial situation. Some people can work well on
their own after one or two sessions. Some issues
are very specific and can be addressed in one or
two sessions. Long-standing issues usually take
longer.
Often people find that they can make considerable progress within 8-15 weeks. Sometimes it helps to have counselling, then take a break to integrate learning and skills, and then return for a few sessions.

• Do I have to get a referral from my family doctor?
No, anyone can refer themselves. However, sometimes
family doctors will refer you for counselling. At
any rate, all services are confidential and your
doctor will only receive information with your
approval.
• What if my partner will not come?
Is it still worthwhile to come by myself?
Yes. Even if your partner does not come, learnings and insights you have will affect the relationship. Often a partner will end up coming after a few sessions.
